Our environmental goals have been inspired by Cradle-to-Cradle principles. These seem to be the smartest and most realistic principles to follow. They've led us to five goals that guide our day-to-day decision making:

  MAKE PRODUCTS THAT ARE USED AND LOVED FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE

  Our products are hard-wearing with strong stitching, tightly-woven lining, long-lasting zips, quality components and a 3 year warranty. The designs we develop are classic, and their character inspires owners to hold onto them for years.

  ELIMINATE SERIOUS TOXINS THROUGHOUT OUR PRODUCT AND PACKAGING

  This includes: environmental toxins (bleaches, pesticides and heavy metals); and human toxins (carcinogens used in poorly controlled leather tanning and chrome plating, or high allergy materials like nickel used in plating).

  TO SEEK BIODEGRADABLE OR RECYCLABLE MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS WHERE THEY MAKE SENSE

  We work with biodegradable and recyclable materials where they don't compromise our first two environmental goals. We choose materials that recycle well, like the polyester we use in linings and stitching, and we design with end-of-life in mind.

  TO REDUCE WASTE AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION THROUGH OUR ENTIRE PROCESS

  We do this by choosing efficient business practices; reducing business travel (instead using technology to connect); working with local warehousing; and encouraging responsible waste management from suppliers and tanneries.

  TO ACTIVELY PURSUE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF OUR IMPACT AND HOW TO REDUCE IT

  We need to research, connect and explore possibilities with knowledgeable groups and individuals, and measure our impacts where we can.

This approach makes sure our donations go as far as they possibly can. We donate a portion of our sales revenue to effective charities:

  BETTER LIVES FOR HUMANS

  In a flourishing world, humans suffer less and enjoy more. We commit a portion of our sales revenue directly to the most effective human flourishing projects we can find, guided by the Centre for Effective Altruism, GiveWell, and the global Effective Altruism community.

  BETTER LIVES FOR ANIMALS

  As part of our mission, we recognise the value of animal life in contributing to a flourishing world. We commit a portion of our sales revenue directly towards improving animal welfare in the most effective ways we can find. Our vision of a better way to farm animals, is one where they have experienced the Five Freedoms during their lives.
