Real Fendi Handbags vs Fakes: 8 Authenticity Check Tips

While counterfeiters have improved their replica handbag creation skills, there are telltale signs to recognize a real Fendi purse from a fake. In this article, we’ll go through 8 tips that will help you decipher between a real Fendi handbag and a fake Fendi bag.

How to Spot Fake Fendi Handbags

Examine the Label

One of the first things that you want to look for is the label. If you see any misspelling on the label, the chances are that it is just a Fendi replica handbag and not the real thing.

Look for a Hologram Sticker

If you purchased a Fendi Bag before the year 2015, you’ll see that the Fendi hologram stickers are encoded, attached to a fabric tag on the inside of the purse, and can only be viewed with a special magnifying device.

Familiarize Yourself with the Popular Types of Fendi Handbag Materials

Many Fendi bags are handcrafted using Patent, Calfskin, Goatskin and Lambskin Leather. So by touching the outside of the bag, it is easy to distinguish if the leather is of good quality or not.  Most fake handbags use reconstituted leather made of synthetic or plastic materials that will reveal cracks when folded or wrinkled.

Check the Packaging

Another way to tell whether or not it is a replica handbag is by looking at the packaging. Keep in mind that luxury retailers always put lots of care into packaging their products, because the imitators are not going to care much about what the packaging looks like and how the product arrives.

Feel the Edges of the Bag

The seams around the corners and edges of the bag should be smooth and even. Jagged and bumpy edges, color variations around the seams, and loose threads are an indicator of an inferior Fendi purse.

View the Bag’s Lining

If there is any puckering of the fabric inside of the purse, you are examining a fake Fendi.  The lining of some vintage purses will have double F’s printed evenly, and the “F” logos will not be crooked or slanted. The lining will lay flat inside the handbag and should not feel rough to the touch.

Examine the Purse’s Zippers and Hardware

Fendi handbags feature hardware made of heavy-duty nickel or brass or nickel plating. All zippers on the outside of the handbag will have metal YKK zippers instead of plastic –and the locks on the purse should fasten and turn easily on a real Fendi handbag.

Verify the Fendi Authenticity Card and the Serial Number

All Fendi purses are sold with a 15- to 17-digit serial number and an identification card that guarantees authenticity. This card shows that the purse has passed Fendi’s quality standards. The card will match a serial number imprinted on a leather tag located in the inner pocket of the authentic purse.

Our Final Thoughts

It is important that you take care when you are shopping for anything designer, and the same goes for a handbag. After all, if you are going to dole out that kind of money, you want to make sure that you are getting the real Fendi purse.

Hi, I have a vintage Fendi Zucchino double flap. I think it was purchased around 2003. While everything appears to be authentic, I can’t seem to find a hologram nor a serial # on the bag (unless I’m missing it). where they using holograms and serial #’s around 2003? If it doesn’t have, does that mean it’s not authentic?

Hi, I’m purchasing a vintage Fendi handbag. It has a leather tag inside with Fendi Made In Italy on it and on the other side it has a serial number of 13 digits – 22288N0001019 but it is not horizontal it goes from one corner to the opposite corner. Do you think this would be fake?

    Hi Michele,

Does the Fendi bag By the way have a hologram as well. I purchased one from eBay but it doesn’t seem to have one. The seller is insisting that it is genuine.

    Thank you

Hi Mechele! I’m trying to buy a Fendi 2jours bag, but none of the bags I’ve found so far fully fit the descriptions I see on the internet, for example the hologram, none of them have a serial number below the hologram … Of all that I’ve seen , Only one has authenticity card however it is blank, there is no written information … I have only the serial numbers that are printed on the back of the inner logo of the bags. Can I give you these numbers so that you can help me know about the authenticity of these items?

Finally, if you do not mind, I also ask you to confirm the serial number of a Burberry Prorsum Welney (ITCF & 10SCA). Thank you!

      Hi Marilia,

      Thanks for your email.

I’m sorry to say that without the appearance of the serial number located directly below the hologram tag, I would not purchase either of these bags. And if this purse is the Medium Fendi 2Jours, it is a rare purse for resale – because it was extremely popular and for some handbag lovers, a collector’s item.

So, if the 2Jours is available for sale at a reasonable price, it’s a fake. As far as the Burberry goes, I’m having difficulty authenticating this bag for you with just the serial numbers.

      Happy shopping,
      Mechele
